Approach

Great signage begins with a message.

We start with your message, your goals, and your budget.

Planning, design, and production, all handled — you get a sign that looks right and meets your goals.

Hand-lettering roots, modern production.

Charlie Mahan took pride in hand-crafting each sign; today the shop carries that tradition forward with modern technology and the same attention to detail.

From idea to finished sign

We don't just print signs — we help you plan them, design them, and bring them to completion.

Services

Planning, design, and production.

Mahan Signs takes your project from concept to finished product. You explain what you need, we work out the details, produce and deliver.

Planning

We work through your job requirements together — artwork, colors, materials, dimensions, and timing — and turn them into a clear plan.

Graphic Design

Your artwork or ours — we'll make sure it's ready for production. If you have a simple sketch or a detailed design, we'll make it work.

Layout

We lay out each sign to use material efficiently. Colors, contrast, and spacing are adjusted so it reads clearly from its intended viewing distance.

Production

The right setup for every job: we pick the right processes and tools to complete it effectively and economically.

Local production

A small shop with decades of practical experience.

Mahan Signs has been serving Central New York residents, businesses, and organizations since 1946. Founded in Watertown, later moving to Liverpool — this shop has been a fixture for multiple generations — a local business producing the signs and graphics that keep this region visible. When you work with us, you're not just another order. You're part of a story that started with Charles Mahan in 1946 and continues with the same local commitment today.

Since 1946

Crafting signs one at a time since 1946.

Charlie Mahan, founder of Mahan Signs

Mahan Signs was founded by Charles Mahan in Watertown, New York in 1946. Charlie was just 16 years old, a self-taught artist with an exceptional talent for drawing and painting.

He moved Mahan Signs to Liverpool, New York in 1957 and served as a commercial artist for Syracuse-area businesses including Ward Baking Company, White Signs, and Pepsi-Cola.

Mahan Signs became one of the first local sign companies to automate sign production, transitioning from hand lettering signs to computerized vinyl cutting and printing.

Charlie continued to run Mahan Signs until his death in 2011. Today, Mahan Signs remains a small, local, family-run business providing quality signage and personalized service.
